Horses Inside Out – A Live Lecture Demonstration with Gillian Higgins
Craven Arena is proud to welcome Horses Inside Out to North Yorkshire for a very special afternoon exploring the fascinating world of equine anatomy and biomechanics.
Gillian Higgins is renowned for her unique and instantly recognisable approach to equine education, using anatomically painted horses to reveal the skeleton and muscular systems beneath the surface. Her demonstrations combine anatomy, movement and practical application to show how understanding the horse’s body can influence riding, training, performance and comfort.
A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE HORSES INSIDE OUT LIVE
This special event will take you from the skeleton and anatomy of the horse through to the biomechanics of movement, ridden work and jumping.
Watch the painted horses in action on the lunge and under saddle, see anatomy demonstrated using real bones and discover how the horse’s body works through different gaits, transitions and gymnastic exercises.
It is an opportunity to see, understand and appreciate movement in an entirely new way.
Suitable for all levels and disciplines, the lecture demonstration is ideal for riders, trainers, coaches, horse owners, students and anyone with an interest in understanding the horse.
An afternoon of learning. A fascinating insight into the horse. And an experience you won't get every day.

2:00pm – Welcome & Introduction
Welcome to the Horses Inside Out Lecture Demo, including a brief introduction and housekeeping information.
2:15pm – Part 1: How the Horse Moves
Explore how the horse moves and the biomechanics of different gaits. Watch a painted horse working on the lunge as Gillian demonstrates the movement and biomechanics of the horse in motion.
3:30pm – Break
A short break with the opportunity to view the horse bones and anatomical display from Horses Inside Out.
4:00pm – Part 2: Biomechanics of Ridden Gaits
Discover the biomechanics of the horse under saddle. Painted horses and riders wearing skeleton body suits will demonstrate how the horse's body moves through different paces and transitions, as well as exploring biomechanics during gymnastic jumping.
5:00pm – Lecture Demo Ends
The lecture demo finishes, but the shopping village remains open until 6:00pm, giving you plenty of time to browse the exhibitors and enjoy the remaining food and drink options.

Refund policy
Full refunds are available for tickets cancelled up to and including Monday 26th October 2026.
Any cancellations made after Monday 26th October 2026 will not be eligible for a refund.
