As a non for profit charitable organistaion, we are dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of horses in need. Your contribution helps provide essential veterinary care, feed, and a safe, loving environment for the horses that call our sanctuary home. Together, we can make a real difference in their lives.

The rules and regulations to follow on the day are set out to protect both participants and the public, by maintaining safe horsemanship.
Cheshire horse sanctuary will do their upmost to provide you with a safe environment, however this can only be safe if the participants adhere to the rules of the show:

Cheshire horse sanctuary will do their upmost to provide you with a safe environment, however this can only be safe if the participants adhere to the rules of the show:
1.When you ride at the Cheshire Horse Sanctuary it is understood that you ride at your own risk, it is also understood that you have your own rider’s insurance.
2.All riders required to wear correctly fitting headgear to PAS015 or higher whilst mounted anywhere on the show ground, caps are permitted in hand for over 18’s.
3.We prefer that Participants wear the appropriate footwear in events, rather than regular trainers or shoes.
4.The Management reserves the right to declare an entry ineligible if the rider’s ability creates an unsafe/unreasonable condition to the participants. Judges Reserve the right to ask a participant to leave the ring if deemed unsafe for both rider and horse. The decision of the official/ judge is final.
5.For ridden classes you must enter the ring mounted with your horse under control and follow the instruction of the steward and judge. You may dismount to leave if required after a lap of honour is complete.
6.When registering to participate, riders under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian to complete and sign the registration forms.
7.For insurance purposes, you must have your horse entered into a class and registered. Your exhibiter number must be worn by the registered rider both whilst riding in a class and whilst on the property of Cheshire Horse Sanctuary. Any rider who does not wear an exhibiter number will be asked to dismount.
8.The judge reserves the right to disqualify a horse that is in obvious pain, please refrain from uncalled whipping and or spurring. We ask that horses are not entered into more than five ridden classes.
9.The organiser reserves the right to amalgamate or substitute classes as deemed necessary.
10.Working times must be adhered to for each section.
11.NO lunging will be allowed on the showground.
12.Entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
13.If your horse is likely to kick, braid a red ribbon in the horses tail to warn other participants.
14.Ages of all horses/ponies are taken as at January 1st of the current
year.
15. All horses & Ponies should be in a sound and healthy condition. Any horse or pony showing signs of distress or lameness will be asked to retire from the ring. The judge’s decision on lameness of a horse/pony will be nondisputable.
16. In all ridden classes the horse / pony must be 4 years old and over as of the 1st of January 2025.
17. Excessive use of whips, showing Caines or misuse of any equipment/tack will result in immediate exclusion from the show ring. Please note whips/cains exceeding 76cm will not be allowed in the show ring.
18. If the judge is of the opinion that the rider is too tall or heavy for the horse or pony then the judge will reflect this in their placings, also if the judge is of the opinion the horse / pony is overweight /obese this will also reflect in their placings. Any decision by the judge on these matters is absolutely undisputable on the day.
19. Handlers of youngstock under 3 year of age must be handled by the handler who has attained their 16th Birthday before the 1st of January 2025
20. Judges may disqualify any horse or pony from the class that is not sufficiently under control or is deemed a danger to other competitors or officials.
21.Please plan to participate in the spirit of good fun, poor sportsmanship, griping, obscene gestures and the use of foul language etc. will not be tolerated.
22.Alcoholic beverages cannot be consumed on the premises.
23.You must park where directed by ground crew; parking of vehicles/trailers is at your own risk. Cheshire horse sanctuary will not be held responsible for any damage to your vehicle.
24.All dogs must be kept on leads.
25.Pushchairs and prams are discouraged near any horse or ponies.
26.Official walkways must be adhered to, no persons are allowed in the horse walkways unless they are riding or leading a horse/pony.
27.Neither the organisers, landowners, committee or agents of the show accept liability for any loss, injury, illnesses to horses or ponies, any person, owner, rider, handler, spectator, land or any property whatsoever, whether caused by negligence, breach of contract or in any way whatsoever.
28.Champion of champions Plaque will remain at the sanctuary and will be engraved with the winner’s details, a photo will be taken at presentation and sent to the winner.
29.No entries will be accepted without the correct fee and first aid contribution. The first aid contribution is per rider.
30.Professional Photography is provided during our event we do reserve the right to use any images taken to promote the sanctuary show on our website and social media forums we will not include any names. if you do not wish for your horse to be photographed, please let the photographer know so they can erase any pictures you are included in.
Judging/scoring of classes:
Ridden/in hand “SHOW” classes: 50% Type and conformation; 50% Ride or Show, Manners and way of going.
Best turned out: 30%| Cleanliness, condition and correctness of tack; 30% Cleanliness and preparation of horse/pony; 30% Cleanliness and neatness of rider;10% Overall Impression.
Young handler: 50% Ability of the handler; 25% suitability of age/height of handler pony; 25% overall Impression.
Equitation: 50% Riders use of seat and aids; 25% Riders Position; 25% suitability of partnership and overall impression.
ALL COMPETITORS will be deemed to have read and accepted these rules as a condition of their participation.
We apologise but we do not have any stallion classes available at our event.

You will not be refunded any payments unless the organisers cancel the event. If that happens we will refund all classes paid for.
