RULES & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. Classes 4 – 12, 14 & 15 All horses must be registered with or overstamped by the IDHS (GB) and in the correct ownership. NEW: Owners of Pure bred Irish Draughts and Irish Draught Sport Horses/Part bred) must now be full members of the IDHS (GB) to compete
2. Irish Draught Sport Horses/Part bred are horses that have a minimum of 25% proven Irish Draught breeding
3. In hand breeding classes MARES with foals at foot, 3 years and over must be inspected and classified as Class 1 (or RID), Class 2 or Supplementary Grade Up (or AID)
4. Pure bred ID and ID Sport Horse / Part bred, 3 year old colts must be un-inspected
5. All 1, 2 & 3 year old colts must be bitted and shown by experienced handlers over 18 years of age
6. All pure-bred Irish Draught Stallions must be inspected and over stamped by the IDHS (GB) and be Class 1, 2 or RID (GB).
7. Stallions must display a red, white and blue ribbon in their tails and be shown by experienced rider/handlers over 18 years of age
8. Ridden horses must be 153cm (15hh) or over.
9. All Pure-Bred Breeding and Youngstock In-hand exhibits must be the progeny of a Graded Mare (Class 1, Class 2, RID (GB), AID or Supplementary Grade Up Register) and be by a Class 1, Class 2 or RID (GB) stallion on the Irish Draught Breed Register. All yearling, two- and three-year-old COLTS must be bitted and shown by an experienced handler of 18 years of age or over. All three-year-old colts must be un-inspected Stallions (In hand or ridden) must also be inspected and over stamped by the IDHS (GB) and be Class 1, 2 or RID (GB) All RIDDEN Pure bred Irish Draughts must be registered with or over stamped by the IDHS (GB) and in the correct ownership.
10. All RIDDEN Irish Draught Sport Horses must be in the correct ownership, have a minimum of 25% proven Irish Draught breeding and be a Registered Irish Draught Sport Horse.
11. All Irish Draught Sport Horse Breeding and Youngstock in Hand exhibits must have a minimum of 25% proven Irish Draught breeding and be registered on the Irish Draught Sport Horse Register. All yearling, two- and three-year-old COLTS must be bitted and shown by an experienced handler of 18 years of age or over. All three-year-old colts must be un-inspected.
12. Classes 4 - 6, 8, 9, 14 & 15 are qualifiers for the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) National Championship show which will take please on 6th & 7th September 2025 at Onley Equestrian Centre, Rugby, Warwickshire, CV23 8AH. Competitors who have qualified from their respective classes for this show will be contacted by a member of the IDHS(GB) Show Affiliation Team to invite them to the finals.
13. Registration numbers to be stated on the entry form and entries will be sent to the IDHS (GB) prior to the Show to confirm eligibility.
14. Competitors may enter more than one class, but the Show Team will not be responsible if clashes occur.
15. All entry forms must be fully completed, and the correct fees paid to be eligible for entry to the appropriate classes. Note entries on the day are CASH ONLY.
16. No entries without appropriate First Aid fee for each rider /handler.
17. No entry fee refunds except for cancellation of the Show or a Class by the Show Team prior to the event.
18. It is a condition of entry that all exhibitors have public liability insurance, confirmation to be given on the entry form.
19. Spot checks will be made of proof of public liability insurance, please bring documents, or a clear photograph.
20. All competitor numbers to be collected on the day. In line with DEFRA regulations, random passports checks will be done when you collect your back number.
21. By entering this show you give your consent to personal data being held and processed by IDHS(GB) in accordance with the Society’s Privacy Policy (available on the website at https://idhsgb.org.uk/legal/privacy-policy/ and UK General Data Protection Regulation. )
22. Health and Safety: The Show Committee accept no responsibility for accidents to spectators, competitors, animals, or their property, in connection with or arising from the Show. Admission is granted and entries accepted only on recognition of this condition. The Yorkshire Irish Draught & Hunter Show accepts no responsibility for any injury arising from any failure to comply with the Show Rules. No rider/handler under sixteen years of age on the day of the show is eligible to compete in any classes. *Riders & handlers of colts and stallions MUST be at least 18years old. Proof of age may be required.
23. The Judge’s decision is final. Any objections must be made in writing to the Show Secretary within 30 minutes of the completion of the class with a £50 cash deposit which will be forfeited if the objection is not upheld.
24. The Show Committee reserves the right to rearrange times, amalgamate or cancel classes, and adjust prize money accordingly. They also reserve the sole right to interpret rules and conditions and to finally settle and determine all or any matter, question, or difference arising from Show policy.
25. Bitless bridles, running gags, Market Harborough’s, side, draw, or running reins are not allowed in any class. The use of Swales, Sam Marsh bits, and gags with double bridles are actively discouraged.
26. Boots and martingales are not permitted in any flat-ridden class.
27. No tack which conceals an animal’s conformation or identifies an animal, its owner, or sponsor is allowed in any ring.
28. It is the sole responsibility of all riders to ensure that whilst mounted, they wear appropriate clothing and footwear and a correctly fitting riding hat/skull cap with an integral adjustable harness complying with the minimum current European standards. These hats are compulsory for competitors aged 18 years and under. This also applies to handlers and grooms.
29. If in the judges/steward’s opinion any horse is regarded to compromise the safety of other competitors or spectators, they will be asked to leave the ring.
30. A fall of horse or rider in any ridden class will lead to elimination from the class.
31. Parents/carers of children and young people under the age of 16 years are responsible for their supervision at all times whilst at the Show.
32. Dogs are allowed but MUST be on a short lead at all times. (No flexi or extending leads in the vicinity of any horse, ring, box, car park or stable areas). Owners must clean up all mess after their pets.
33. No Smoking in the stable or any indoor area.
34. Equine Flu - Horses must be up to date with their annual vaccination booster (an initial primary course of 3 injections is required for horses more than 5 months old. The second is given between 21 and 92 days after the first and the third is given between 150 and 215 days after the second, and then booster vaccinations given annually thereafter). Must have had their second vaccination at least 7 days prior to the show.
35. No ridden horses permitted into the collecting ring until the final In Hand Class / championship has entered the ring.
36. All competitors MUST declare at the secretary’s office.
37. Prize money must be collected on the day, and uncollected will be treated as a donation to the show

1. Classes 1 – 11 & 17 – 18 are affiliated to the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) and only horses registered with or over stamped by the IDHS (GB) and in the correct ownership are eligible for entry.
