Generously supported by the Racing Foundation, a working group co-ordinated by the Horse Welfare Board is launching this pilot to bring schooling trials to the UK. Schooling trials allow a more structured schooling opportunity for a variety of horses to prepare them for the racecourse, at all stages of their career. The educational and competitive benefits of these schooling opportunities are clear, and our hope is that this ultimately contributes to well prepared, robustly developed horses appearing, or re-appearing on the racecourse.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Depending on demand - the day will consist of 6-8 schooling trials, with the final trial being a British Racing School Trial. A full schedule will be sent to all registered applicants by 12noon on Friday 28th March 2025.
We expect up to 10 horses in each trial, with entries taken on a first come first served basis. Trials are expected to be run to suit each individual group, at a sensible pace, with no obligation to travel as one group, with fields made up from multiple trainers.
First Trial: 9am - with intervals of 30 minutes between sessions.
Trial Times: Will be determined by entries and will be issued on Friday 28th March at 12noon.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
Safety – x2 Doctors, x2 Paramedic Ambulances, x2 Veterinary Officers and Horse Ambulance
Although the day is not open to the public, we welcome Owners, Trainers, Riders and connections to the schooling day. The grandstand and buildings will not be open for use. Viewing will be available at the front of the racecourse, on the lawn areas and viewing steps. Light refreshments such as tea, coffee, water, bacon and sausage sandwiches will be available at the Brigadier Gerard bar and within the racing staff accommodation at the stables.
