Eligibility:  
For all RoR Competition Registered horses that have qualified. 
Riders must be aged 15 years and over at 1st January 2025 
 
Each RoR Regional Championship event is a qualifier for the RoR National Dressage Championships 2025 which will be held at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree in August 2025. The Championship classes will run and be judged under BD rules, they will, however, also be affiliated to RoR only and no BD grading points will be awarded.

To qualify for RoR Regional Dressage Horse Championship classes, riders must submit two score sheets for the level at the required minimum percentage or above from affiliated competitions, unaffiliated competitions or both. Score sheets must include the registered racing name of the horse, have full details re date and venue and must be signed by the Judge. The qualification is for horse/rider, no substitutes (horse or rider) allowed. Horse/rider combinations are allowed to compete in two classes at adjacent levels so long as they have submitted the relevant qualifying score sheets. 
 
Horses qualified with two riders are not allowed to be entered more than once in the same Championship class. Combinations can take part in any regional championship but must submit the relevant score sheets for each. To submit your qualifying scores, you can either:

Prize Structure: 
Championship Classes: rosettes to 6th place and a finalist rosette to each competitor. Prizes in kind may also be available. Competitors, in accordance with BD rules, must attend prize givings, mounted or unmounted at the organiser’s discretion, or ensure that they are represented, when requested by the organiser. Failure to attend (unless agreed with the organiser) may result in the forfeit of rosettes or other awards. Correct competition dress should be worn for prize givings, whether mounted or not.

RoR Rules for Dressage 
 
Competitions, Eligibility and taking part 
RoR Dressage incentives are open to Competition Registered horses that have raced, (including raced overseas and P2P) and unraced horses that have been in training with a licenced trainer. 
All horses must be fully registered with RoR and hold current Competition Membership 
All riders must be aged 15 years or over at 1st January of current year 
All horses must be at least four years of age on 1st January of current year. 
All horses must compete under their Weatherbys, or recognised racing authority, registered name. 
By entering any RoR event, including externally organised, members agree to be bound by these and the general Rules of RoR, found here: https://www.ror.org.uk/rules and the T&Cs in place at any venue hosting RoR classes. 
Each competitor is responsible for ensuring that they are conversant with, and agree to adhere to, these rules.

All competitions hosted by, or on behalf of, RoR will run under BD rules and are affiliated to RoR only.  
No BD grading points will be awarded.  
Qualification scores for the Winter Festival of Dressage and Regional Championships can be gained at affiliated and unaffiliated events unless otherwise stated and all tests must be BD standard tests that are currently in use.

Results from Pony Club tests, BE tests, Online Dressage tests and Freestyle to Music tests will not be accepted towards qualification. Scores from Combined Training competitions are acceptable so long as the dressage test is current BD standard.  
Horse/rider combinations can enter up to two Championship classes on a single day at RoR Regional Dressage Championship events, provided they are eligible and have qualified and the levels are consecutive. 
Qualification status is for horse/rider combination only and no substitutions are allowed. 
RoR Regionals Championships – two scores are required per level as per the competition overview. 
RoR National Dressage Championship qualification is via the RoR Regional Dressage Championships only.

Entries for each event will be via a specific link and will be online only. 
No postal or telephone entries will be accepted. 
 
Qualifying criteria 
Riders must submit their qualifying sheets and have received confirmation of qualification before entering any RoR Championship class. 
Scores gained from previous RoR events, including Championships, may be used, if applicable and so long as the results were gained with the relevant qualifying period for the intended competition. 
Qualifying submissions must be made by email only and must include: 
The correct number of qualifying score sheets or a screenshot of the combination’s (horse/rider) BD record showing the relevant results, 
The date, venue, horse and rider names, Judge’s name and signature, level of test and the percentage scored must be clearly visible on all sheets submitted for verification. 
The horse’s current Competition Membership number 
The correct title of the RoR event that the qualification is being submitted for. 
Riders must submit a new set of qualifying sheets if wishing to compete in another RoR Championship Dressage event, in other words the same set of qualifying sheets can only be submitted once. 
Submissions and queries via personal messaging platforms will not be accepted. 
In the event of entry numbers exceeding the allocated space available for any Championship class, then priority will be given to the highest scores gained at qualification in descending order. An average will be taken from the two scores submitted by each competitor and a league table formed to support the administration when a class is oversubscribed. 
Any person entering a RoR Dressage Championship class without prior approval from RoR, will forfeit their entry fees and will not be permitted to start in the class. 
 
Refunds and Withdrawals 
Refunds and Withdrawals before and after the entry closing date: for the Winter Festival of Dressage see Event Organisers’ T&Cs.  
 
Competition Rules 
No commanding and no whips allowed in any RoR Championship Dressage test. 
Dispensation – must be lodged in advance with the organiser and the only acceptable form is a BD issued dispensation note 
Fall of horse and/or rider = elimination. 
If a rider has a fall from their horse, they must be seen by one of the designated medical staff.  
If, in the event of a Championship class exceeding 4 hrs in duration, it is understood that members may wish to leave before the end of the class. Members may leave early under the following circumstances: 
An emergency 
That their score is out of the top 10 placings as they currently stand 
That they accept that there can be no objection to any results/scoring once the sheet or sheets have been taken 
That they have notified the organiser of their intention to leave early 
That adequate monies have been provided to cover any postage costs 
The Judges’ decision is final.  
Abuse, whether verbal or online, of stewards, officials, volunteers, trainers/coachs and fellow competitors will not be tolerated. Any person disobeying these rules will result in elimination and possible exclusion from future RoR events.   
The Judge may disqualify any rider at any stage in the competition for dangerous riding, inappropriate behaviour or language, abuse of officials, misuse of whip or spurs or ill treatment of the horse (see Equine Welfare below)

Prize Money: if applicable, will be allocated as above and will be paid by RoR via BACS after the event.  
Winners and placed combinations will be presented with and will be required to fill in a prize money claim form.  
Competitors, in accordance with BD rules, must attend prize-givings, mounted or unmounted at the organiser’s discretion, or ensure that they are represented, when requested by the organiser. Failure to attend (unless agreed with the organiser) will result in the forfeit of prize money, rosettes or other awards. Correct competition dress should be worn for the prize giving whether mounted or not.  
Competitors wishing to leave before the conclusion of the class must inform the secretary or RoR representative on duty and must leave the sum of £2.50 and clear postage instructions in order to receive their score sheet.  
RoR will not be liable for any postage costs due to insufficient monies left by the competitor.

The Championship Event organisers and RoR reserves the right, at any time, to make any changes/amendments to the competition, rules and prize structure 
Objections/Disqualification 
Objections must be made by email within 24hrs of the publishing of results for any RoR class and sent for the attention of the RoR Managing Director to info@ror.org.uk  
Objectors will be notified of any official findings following the scrutiny of any objection. 
Members may be disqualified at any stage of the competition period if found to be in breach of any rules in place. 
The competition period for each Series will be taken as the start date for submission of results, right through to six months after the actual competition. 
Any breach of the rules in place may result in disqualification at the discretion of RoR. 
Any person that has been disqualified from a RoR competition must return all awards to RoR immediately, namely - rosettes, branded prizes inc rugs, sashes and prize money. 
Any member entering a class for which they are not eligible according to the overview and schedule for that series will be disqualified and will forfeit the entry fee.  
It is entirely the member’s responsibility to check and ensure eligibility for each class before entering any event. 
 
Competition Dress and Tack 
Competitor dress, saddlery and tack: please refer to the current BD handbook, also available online at:

Any person riding a horse at any time during the event, whether competing or not, must wear a current standard hard hat with the chin strap correctly fastened, at all times. 
Two bridle numbers to be worn during working in and whilst competing and must be clearly visible. Can be attached to the bridle or the saddle cloth. Note – bridle numbers are not supplied by RoR or the Event Organiser. 
No draw reins or martingales allowed. 
Breastplates are allowed. 
Intro, Prelim and Novice classes – snaffle bridles only, Elementary and above – a double bridle may be used. See BD Rule Book for permissible bits. 
Ear covers are permitted in RoR Dressage classes, and must not cover the eyes, should not be fastened to the noseband and should be of a discreet colour. Ear Plugs – are allowed in Mounted Presentations only and are not allowed in competition. Failure to observe this rule will result in elimination. 
Face Masks are permitted, should be a discreet colour and cover the nose and face only, the mouth and bit must be easily visible. 
Freestyle To Music classes, general rules applicable – please refer to the current BD handbook. 
Rider Dress – see BD Members Guide (available online) pages 123 – 131. Body protectors may be worn at any level. Spurs may be worn at all levels. Headsets/earphones are not permitted in RoR Dressage tests unless formal BD dispensation has been granted and approved before the start of the competition. 
Hot weather – at the Judges’ discretion only, riders may compete without their jackets. 
 
Equine Welfare 
Horse welfare, please refer to the RoR Rule Book, BD Rule Book or email info@ror.org.uk  
There is a restriction to the number of dressage classes that any horse may be entered in, on a single day. Horses competing at Novice level or below: 4 classes including warm-up tests, Elementary and Medium – 3 classes including warm-up tests, Advanced Medium and above – 2 classes including warm-up. One extra entry in a FSM class may be permitted upon request. 
Shoeing – there are no specific rules for horses being shod/barefoot in RoR dressage classes. 
REMINDER to everyone that the trimming of sensory whiskers and horses’ ears is banned. See BD Rule Book pages 14 – 19. 
Judges may disqualify any rider at any stage in the competition for misuse of whip or spurs, ill treatment of the horse or if in their opinion the horse is unsound, sick or unfit to compete.  
Hot weather – riders must prioritise horse welfare and make sure that horses have opportunities to drink water and that the horse is warmed up and cooled down adequately.

General Provisions and Event T&Cs  
There may be a mandatory charge for First Aid cover at each Championship event. 
Stabling on-site for events 
RoR is not responsible for on-site stabling at events. 
Members book stabling at their own risk 
All bookings must be done via the organiser or venue for each event as per the schedule. 
It is the member’s responsibility to organise and pay for their own stabling. 
Refunds – please refer to the booking conditions for the individual event. 
Any issues arising from stabling are between the ‘hirer’ and the ‘owner’ and not RoR 
Please refer to each individual venues T&Cs re any of the below 
No horses may be left unattended outside lorries/trailers. 
Lungeing horses at the event 
No hay nets may be tied to the outside of lorries/trailers. 
All droppings must be removed from the parking areas immediately. 
Respect to be shown for each venues’ property 
All dogs, if allowed, must be kept on leads and any mess must be cleared up and disposed of appropriately.

1.

“Business Day” 
a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday in England when banks in London are open for business.
 
“Charges” 
the charges payable by the Hirer for the hire of the Venue in accordance with clause 3.
 
“College

Personnel”
employees of the College.
 
“College” 
Myerscough College established in 1993 under The Further and Higher Education Act 1992 with main centre at St Michael’s Road, Bilsborrow, Preston PR3 0RY.
 
“Conditions” 
these terms and conditions as amended from time to time in accordance with clause 21.
 
“Consumer”
a ‘consumer’ as defined by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, being an individual acting for purposes that are wholly or mainly outside that individual’s trade, business, craft or profession. 
 
“Contract” 
the contract between the College and the Hirer for the supply of Services in accordance with these Conditions.
 
“Event”
the meeting, conference, workshop, function, party, game, show, hire or any other event to be held at the Venue during the Hire Period as specified in the Event Booking Form.
 
“Event Booking

Form”
the booking form signed by the Hirer and on behalf of the College in such form as the College may require, and setting out the details of the hire of the Venue by the Hirer.
 
“Event Supervisor”
the employee representative of the College co-ordinating the Event.
 
“Force Majeure

Event”
any circumstance not within the College’s reasonable control including, without limitation, acts of God, flood, drought, earthquake or other natural disaster; epidemic or pandemic; terrorist attack, civil war, civil commotion or riots, war, threat of or preparation for war, armed conflict, imposition of sanctions, embargo, or breaking off of diplomatic relations; nuclear, chemical or biological contamination or sonic boom; any law or any action taken by a government or public authority, including without limitation imposing an export or import restriction, quota or prohibition, or failing to grant a necessary licence or consent; collapse of buildings, fire, explosion or accident; any labour or trade dispute, strikes, industrial action or lockouts; non-performance by suppliers or sub-contractors; and interruption or failure of utility service.
 
“Hire Period”
the period of hire of the Venue as set out in the Event Booking Form (which, for the avoidance of doubt, shall include set up and clear time).
 
“Hirer” 
the person or firm who hires the Venue from the College.
 
“Normal College

Hours”
8.30am until 5.00pm on any Business Day.
 
“Premises”
the College’s Preston campus estate.
 
“Services”
any ancillary services to the hire of the Venue to be provided by the College, as set out in the Event Booking Form.
 
“Venue”
such part(s) of the Premises as identified in the Event Booking Form on/in which the Event is to take place.
2.
THE CONTRACT
 
2.1
The Event Booking Form constitutes an offer by the Hirer to hire the Venue in accordance with these Conditions and shall only be deemed to be accepted when signed by the College at which point and on which date the Contract shall come into existence (“Commencement Date”). 
 
2.2
Any drawings, descriptive matter or advertising issued by the College, and any descriptions or illustrations contained in the College's brochures, are issued or published for the sole purpose of giving an approximate idea of the Premises and other College centres described in them.  They shall not form part of the Contract or have any contractual force. 
 
2.3
These Conditions apply to the Contract to the exclusion of any other terms that the Hirer seeks to impose or incorporate, or which are implied by trade, custom, practice or course of dealing.
 
2.4
Any quotation given by the College shall not constitute an offer, the Venue may be hired subject to availability and the agreement of the Principal and College Corporation or their delegates.  The College is under no legal obligation to hold events on its Premises which are open to the outside public and reserves the right to refuse an application without explanation.
 
3.
CHARGES AND PAYMENT
 
3.1
The Charges for the hire of the Venue and any Services shall be as set out in the Event Booking Form.  Any requirement for a deposit shall be set out in the Event Booking Form.
 
3.2
A deposit, or full payment, may be required when confirming the booking and will be stated in the Event Booking Form.
 
3.3
The College reserves the right to vary the Charges upon 7 days’ written notice where the College’s costs of providing the Services are increased due to factors beyond the College’s control.
 
3.4
All Charges quoted are inclusive of all utility charges, but exclude all other costs (including, but not limited to use of telephone, photocopying, College materials etc) which will be recharged to the Hirer at the rate applicable at time of use.
 
3.5
Payment must be made by the Hirer in accordance with the payment terms specified in the Event Booking Form.
 
3.6
Without prejudice to any other right or remedy that it may have, if the Hirer fails to pay the College any sum due under the Contract on the due date:

(a)        the Hirer shall pay an additional charge, equivalent to 5% of the invoice value (net of VAT), plus VAT if applicable, on invoices unpaid after 90 days;

(b)        the College may terminate the Contract in accordance with clause 7.4(a).
 
3.7
All sums payable to the College under the Contract:

(a)        are exclusive of VAT, where applicable, and the Hirer shall in addition pay an amount equal to any VAT chargeable on those sums on delivery of a VAT invoice; and

(b)        shall be paid in full without any set-off, counterclaim, deduction or withholding (other than any deduction or withholding of tax as required by law).
 
4.
USE OF THE VENUE
 
 
 
 
 
 
4.1         The College gives no warranty as to the suitability of the Venue for the purpose for which it is hired and it is the Hirer’s responsibility to satisfy itself concerning this.

4.2          The Hirer may only use the Venue for the purpose specified by it in the Event Booking Form and this purpose must be lawful.

4.3          The Hirer must complete risk assessment(s) for the Event as necessary and will be required to supply the Event Supervisor with a copy of these risk assessments in advance of the Hire Period.  Failure to provide a copy of these risk assessments in advance of the Hire Period, as required in these Conditions, will lead to the termination of the Contract (see clause 7.4(b)).

4.4          The Hirer must ensure that the maximum capacity approved at the time of the booking for a particular Event (and as set out in the Event Booking Form) is not exceeded.

4.5          Under the Education Act (No.2) 1986, the College is required to take such steps as are reasonably practicable to ensure:

(a)        that freedom of speech within the law is secured for students and employees of the College and for visiting speakers; and

(b)        the use of the Premises shall not be denied to any individual or body of persons on account of their gender, colour, race, language, religious belief, age, marital status, disability, learning difficulty, sexuality, socio-economic status or any other beliefs or views or policies or objectives.

The Hirer shall co-operate at all times with the College to ensure compliance.

4.6          The Hirer must submit prior to use/publication, for approval by the College, any publicity material produced in connection with the Event which includes any College logos, photographs, material etc. or mention of the College directly or indirectly by name.

 

5.
EQUIPMENT
5.1
No furniture, fittings or equipment shall be moved or removed by the Hirer.
5.2
Temporary fixtures must not be nailed, screwed or otherwise affixed to walls, floors, furniture or buildings, and placards are not to be posted on College buildings without prior permission from the College.
5.3
No tents, marquees, temporary structures, generators etc are to be erected or used on the Premises without prior permission from the College.
5.4
The Hirer may only erect any Event-specific materials at the commencement of the Hire Period and must remove them immediately following the end of the Hire Period.  Any property left by the Hirer on the Premises after the Hire Period may be removed and stored/disposed of at Hirer’s risk.
5.5
The Hirer must ensure during the Hire Period that the Venue, surroundings and equipment are kept in a clean and tidy condition, secure when not in use and at the end of Hire Period are litter and damage free and properly secured and stored.
6.
SERVICES
6.1
The College shall supply the Services to the Hirer as set out in the Event Booking Form. 
6.2
The College shall have the right to make any changes to the Services which are necessary to comply with any applicable law or safety requirement, or which do not materially affect the nature or quality of the Services, and the College shall notify the Hirer in any such event.
6.3
The College warrants to the Hirer that the Services will be provided using reasonable care and skill. 
7.
CANCELLATION
7.1               Cancellation of the booking by the Hirer will be subject to any cancellation Charges specified in the Event Booking Form.

7.2               The College reserves the right to cancel the hire of the Venue or to relocate the Event to another equivalent venue on the Premises for any reason and at any time prior to the Hire Period by written notice to the Hirer.

7.3               Where the College cancels the hire of the Venue for:

(a)        unexpected building work or repairs to the Premises; or 

(b)        a Force Majeure Event, 

the College will use all reasonable endeavours to notify the Hirer promptly of any alternative dates or relocation.  In such circumstances if the College is not able to offer reasonably alternative dates or locations to the Hirer, then the College will refund all Charges paid by the Hirer less a contribution to the costs the College has already incurred in relation to the hire.

7.4          Where the College cancels the hire of the Venue due to:

(a)        a failure by the Hirer to pay any part of the Charge(s) when due; or

(b)        a failure by the Hirer to provide full and accurate particulars of the Event as required (including, but not limited to, the risk assessment required under clause 4.3 and insurance details required under clause 17.3); or 

(c)         if the College decides that the Hirer or the Event is, or is reasonably likely to be, in contravention of these Conditions,

then any deposit or prepayment paid by the Hirer shall be forfeited and the College reserves the right to seek damages for any additional losses caused.

7.5          In the event of the cancellation of the booking by the College, the College will not be held liable for any expenditure incurred, damage to reputation or loss sustained directly or indirectly by the Hirer, arising from the cancellation.

SAFEGUARDING AND PREVENT
 
 

Safeguarding
8.1
The College considers the safeguarding of anyone using, renting or hiring the College facilities a priority. (whether this involves financial arrangements or unpaid). The College Corporation has a duty to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place including due diligence and transfer of control agreements as highlighted in this section.

As such appropriate policies and procedures are in place to protect the College and individuals.  The College’s Child Protection and Safeguarding policy and procedure sets out the College’s commitment to safeguarding. Myerscough College | Policies

 
8.2
If an activity or event involves children or young people under the age of 18:

·       the College has a duty to and will conduct further checks and clarification that the Hirer has the appropriate safeguarding policies, procedures and process in place.

Refund policy

- A 75% refund will be given if the withdrawal is complete before the closure of entries.
- A 50% refund will be given if the withdrawal is complete before the times go live.


No refund will be given once the times have gone live.


Transfer of entries to another competition can be made but there will be an admin fee of £3.
