What are schooling trials?

Generously supported by the Racing Foundation, a working group co-ordinated by the Horse Welfare Board is launching this pilot to bring schooling trials to the UK. Schooling trials allow a more structured schooling opportunity for a variety of horses to prepare them for the racecourse, at all stages of their career. The educational and competitive benefits of these schooling opportunities are clear, and our hope is that this ultimately contributes to well prepared, robustly developed horses appearing, or re-appearing on the racecourse.

What horses can take part?

Thoroughbred horses trained in licenced yards or in P2P yards who are compliant with the relevant vaccination programme may take part. Horses can be un-raced and there is no lower age limit. A safety factor of 12 horses will be applied to each trial session.

Who can Ride?

This is left to the Trainers discretion on the understanding that the participating rider has the prerequisite skills to take part.  The responsibility remains with the trainer to act in the interest of their employees, working with other trainers where riders are shared.  All riders are to wear appropriate safety equipment and must have the relevant insurance in place.

Disclaimer

All Owners and Trainers attending the Schooling Trials (Pilot) do so at their own risk.  The Harkaway Club & Chaddesley Racecourse, the Committee and organisers accept no responsibility.

The Harkaway Club  retain the right to cancel the Schooling Trials Day in the event of adverse weather, unsuitable going or lack of entries.
