Notes

Working Hunter is traditionally a showing class for the judge to choose which pony they would be most suitable for a child to go hunting with.
There are 2 phases and we will have two separate rings for these phases:
Jumping phase:
This is over a course of rustic fences. The marking scheme is 50 points for jumping (10 marks deducted for a knock down and 15 penalties for a refusal). 3 refusals result in elimination. There is then another mark out of 20 for style of jumping. The judges are looking for a flowing round using the arena correctly with the pony jumping out of a balanced rhythm. The judges look for a smooth, careful jump suitable for hunting.
Flat phase
This is performed in a separate ring and is straight after the jumping round. The steward will direct you straight from the jumping ring into the conformation ring. If the pony jumps in boots these should be removed. Back protectors do not need to be removed. A show is then performed this is traditionally a walk away from the judge in a straight line and then trot back to the judge and then a figure of 8 showing trot on both reins and canter on both reins with a short gallop at the end and then halt and salute.
This is judged out of 20 for the conformation, paces and suitability of the pony. A mark out of 10 is then given for manners and way of going.
All these marks are then added together to give a score. If there is a tie on marks then the pony with the highest jump mark will be placed 1st. If they have the same jump mark then the pony with the highest manners mark will be placed 1st. If all the marks are the same then the judges decision is final. All the marks will be available after each relevant championship on the day.
