Notes

RoR South West are proud to present a fantastic educational evening for you and your horse with Abbie Hughes! We will have two sessions available, a performance Flat session at 5pm and a performance Jump session at 6pm. £20 secures you a place and all are welcome. You may wish you enjoy both sessions or even come on foot to spectate, Bicton has superb facilities and a lovely viewing gallery making comfortable viewing! Here is a little bit more about Abbie... Whether you want to simply feel safer on a horse, or whilst hacking, compete happily at riding club competitions or jump faster clear rounds, tackle those more difficult courses, go advanced eventing or as far as you can in the dressage world - evolution sports coaching can help. There are a huge number of areas within the equestrian world where people struggle. Each is unique to them as we are all on a different journey. You may just want to feel more confident with jumping or jumping a particular type of fence. You may feel you need more self-confidence when riding in general or suffer from competition nerves which detriments your performance. The pressure of owners or trainers or qualifications can sometimes be too much to cope with, including also the financial pressures. Having someone to talk to is the best way to find a solution. Finding the answer to believe in yourself and keep achieving your goals. Having experienced some of the above personally, it can enable me to help others. My background comes mainly from Equestrian sport having ridden up to Inter II level dressage; three star eventing; 1.30m showjumping and having had over eighty point to point rides. A varied lifestyle which I wouldn't change for the world. I have always been interested in sport - the similarities, the differences, the dynamics, the psychology, the skills etc. When watching the athletic championships (the 1500m race in particular) I could not believe the psychology involved which appeared so similar to race riding. This led me to study further and train with Andy Barton. In life I have often been told that I couldn't combine two disciplines successfully ( dressage and eventing) but somehow I added a third (race-riding). In life, if you believe you can, it's possible to achieve what you set out to do. I am not going to lie - it hasn't been easy - but what in life worth having is easy? I certainly knew I didn't want to get older and have to live with regrets for not trying. Our lives are a journey, one that should be enjoyed from start to finish. In Sport often we get so hooked on winning and on that final destination that we forget why we are doing it in the first place. Remember when you played because you loved it, because your friends were there, a release from school or college work. Sportspeople that still have that love and enjoyment can be far more successful. This has been really important for me. Growing up I was totally obsessed with horses, I lived and breathed to ride. I used to tell all of my family and schoolteachers that I would be an international event rider and win a gold medal at the Olympics. However, as things became more serious along came a lot more pressure. If I won it felt like a relief rather than a success. If I didn't do well I would take it personally and immediately feel useless/ not good enough. Things got so bad that I became really poorly. After not wanting to ride again and taking a break, I came back to the sport with a very different mindset. I am now back to where I started in the first place. I admire anyone who is out there having a go - watching people who are really talented at anything in life gives me goosebumps, but remember everyone had to start somewhere. Sports can be full of critics and is often quite a negative world at times - however you are the one out there 'doing' and it is your journey. Remember to smile and let them live theirs. What I would like to offer people is to help them evolve as a human being - as a real person. To achieve their goals in life, no matter how big or small, and to overcome any fears or hurdles which may currently stand in their way
