Rules and conditions of entry

Judging for classes 2, 3, 5 & 6: A section of the course will be timed. Riders will be placed starting with the least number of jumping penalties, and thereafter closest to the optimum time through the timed section (meters per minute, will be posted at the Secretary’s tent on the day).

Judging for classes 4 & 7: Both riders must jump every fence. No penalty points will be given for individual refusals, however, if a rider refuses 3 times at the same fence, the pair will be eliminated. Dressing fence: riders must jump this side by side. Penalty points given for the further apart the riders are at this fence. A section of the course will be timed. Pairs will be placed starting with the least number of dressing fence penalties, and thereafter closest to the optimum time through the timed section (meters per minute, will be posted at the Secretary’s tent on the day).

Faults: First disobedience = 20 penalties, second disobedience = 40 penalties, third disobedience = elimination. If eliminated, riders may continue round the course but MUST give way to any other competitors. Fall of rider = 60 penalties: if uninjured and it is safe to do so, riders may remount and continue with the course. Fall of horse = elimination: in this case competitors may NOT continue and must leave the course immediately at a walk.

Qualifiers: Classes 3, 5, 6 & 7 are Horseware National Hunter Trial Series Qualifiers. In order to qualify, riders need to be placed 1st to 3rd in their class having obtained a clear round. The Horseware National Final will be held on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October.

SC & SH PC members: Please state your membership number when requested during the online entry process.

Number bibs: £5.00 deposit will be required for your number bib. £2.00 will be returned & £3.00 goes towards first aid. (The full £5.00 will be returned to SC & SH PC members on production of valid membership card).

Course walking: Friday 8th September 3pm – 7pm. The course may be walked on the day of the competition but you must be mindful of competitors on the course and must stay out of their way.

Refunds: No refunds after close of entries. In the event of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances or unsafe weather conditions, entries will be refunded less a £5 administration fee.

Entries on the day: £10 extra if space permits. Please contact the Secretary prior to the event.

Start times: Individual start times will be given for class 1. These will be available on the website and Facebook page on 8th September. All other classes: put your number down on the day at the collecting ring. Approx start times for classes 2-7 will be published on our Facebook page @sdfunrides nearer the time.

Dogs: No dogs anywhere except in the box park and must be on a lead at all times.

Horses/ponies: Must be 4 years and over. No horse or pony may compete in more than 3 classes.

Riders: Hard hats (no fixed peaks) and body protectors to current British standards MUST be worn at all times when mounted. Appropriate cross-country clothing and tack is to be worn. No watches or timing equipment is allowed.

Objections: The decision of the organisers on any matter shall be final. Any objection shall be accompanied by a deposit of £20 and within 30 minutes of the incident. The deposit will only be returned if the objection is upheld. Video evidence will NOT be accepted in support of an objection.

Health and safety: Horse riding carries an implicit risk of injury and / or damage to property. Reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of competitors and spectators have been taken. For these measures to be effective, everyone must obey the instructions of the organisers, officials and stewards. Failure to do so will result in elimination.

Liability: The SC & RMAS Draghunt Ltd, the organisers, stewards, volunteers, Wheatlands Farm and all persons involved with the running of the Hunter Trial, disclaim all liability for any damage or injury to any person or property, howsoever caused, whether by negligence or otherwise. It is up to the participants and spectators to make their own insurance arrangements.
